Big, Bad 1st Graders

On Tuesday, August 17th the girls started first grade. They were ready to go back to school and see their friends that they hadn't seen all summer. We are happy that they have the same teacher as they had last year. She is great with kids and we appreciate her a lot.

We are back to our early morning routines and I get to hear "but I'm not ready to get up yet" and "I'm so tired, I don't want to get up" over and over again. I feel their pain and think the same thoughts each day when it's time to get up.

The girls are going to school from 7:50am-2:20pm for the first few weeks. The girls are coming home exhausted. Apparently that's a very long time for 6 year olds. Starting the beginning of September, they will get out of school at 1:20pm.

Their teacher has a new philosophy this year and she's cutting back on the homework being given out. I could have kissed her when she told me that. Here's hoping she keeps that philosophy all year long!
